Distractions

This week my car got really sick. My faithful wonderful little Pacifica (that I love so much I can't get rid of it....although I considered it when it got terribly sick with lots of issues) needed major TLC. Professional TLC.
Pacifica was gone all week and we shared one car.
Sadly, the bill was huge. UGH!
So, lucky for me photography gives me the opportunity to be distracted by other things... and it's free!

like the amazing strawberries that are taking over the patch in my backyard. those are free, too.

or the cilantro that flavors our beloved Gallo Pinto recipe. if you are Costa Rican or have fallen in love with Costa Rica, cilantro in life is a must!

definitely distracted by the nectarines that surprised us this year. they will all ripen at once, which is great if you know how to make jam. i don't... but i want to learn. can't be that hard, right?

or the blueberries ripening for the first time this year. i am so excited, as we had not been able to figure out how to grow them. they look so perfect I don't want to eat them..

or after we basically ruined our apple tree by pruning it the wrong way, this year we were more careful and it is looking good so far. luckily, nature is very forgiving...

and i have 7 hydrangea plants around the house: cynthia, samantha, gigi, antonina, malika, tamar and bess.. all names after my best friends in Costa Rica and the first friends I met when I moved here. all the girls are blooming beautifully!

this is probably my favorite distraction

but coming in first and favorite is watching my kids together, healthy and happy. there is no better distraction and one that reminds me every day to do the very best i can to let the small stuff go.

Happy Memorial Day weekend! May you let all the small stuff go...
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Kiss of Life

This is Mylie's favorite song by Sade.
When she hears it she immediately gets on her feet and starts dancing and singing.
She sings it to us.
There is something about this song - Sade's voice, the music, the joy, that makes her very happy. And she never tires of it. Here are the lyrics.
To me they say the world!

There must have been an angel by my side
Something heavenly led me to you
Look at the sky
It's the color of love
There must have been an angel by my side
Something heavenly came down from above
He led me to you

He built a bridge to your heart
All the way
How many tons of love inside
I can't say

When I was led to you
I knew you were the one for me
I swear the whole world could feel my heartbeat
When I lay eyes on you
Ay ay ay
You wrapped me up in
The color of love

Wasn't it clear from the start
Look the sky is full of love
Yeah the sky is full of love

You wrapped me up in the color of love
Must have been an angel came down from above
Giving me love yeah

You gave me the kiss of life
Kiss of life

I get the chills when I read it. I will sing it all the days of my life!!!

Hoping your week is full of songs and music that speak to your heart of hearts!!

Best Friends

This weekend Ty's best buddy, Joaquin, came for a sleepover. He also happens to be Mylie and Ty's Godbrother. We started off the weekend with Ty's favorite dinner - Turkey Tacos. And my photo op began:

Sour cream with a little turkey tacos

a soccer match that needed no ref -phew

as competitive as they are, no one knew who was ahead

fun is always involved in whatever these boys do together

best buddies since infancy and now look at 'em

Ty wanted the ice-cream "that has the sugar that goes straight to your blood." I guess he was listening when I was describing how nutritionally deficient sorbet can be.

a little rainbow sorbet once in awhile can't hurt, right?

or bubblegum sorbet?

anyway, they loved it!

on our way to the beach, as we always do to run off the sugar rush...

placed a penny on the tracks as the train came by...

danced all the way to the waves

played a game of chase with the waves

Mylie won every time

and then we just ran all around...

and took pictures of each other...

found the penny smashed flat... so COOL!

next day went to The Spot for burgers and fries...

captured those beautiful eyes in perfect sidelight

and of course had to go down to the beach again for some more fun

because that's what best friends do

it's good to have a best friend.
